MORE ABOUT THE PICASSO MUSEUM

Barcelona Picasso Museum is located in the El Born district of Barcelona and is spread over five palaces. Picasso moved to the Catalan city as a 14-year-old boy, and the Museum reveals his profound relationship with Barcelona. Over the years Picasso Museum has become the global center of creative encounters to promote the universal language of art as a tool for learning, expression, and invention.

Today Picasso Museum joins forces with Barcelona Dibuixa annual art festival which explores how drawing can be used to understand, communicate, document the learning process, and above all enjoy it. Barcelona Dibuixa dedicates the 2022 edition to hugs (in Catalan “abraçades”), meaning spontaneity, and physical contact in human relationships. Barcelona Dibuixa dedicates over 40 workshops around the city to this affectionate gesture. Great professionals and artists will offer the guests of the festival exciting drawing challenges and games designed for all ages. Among them is the interactive exhibition and workshop by Exquisite Workers, a creative hub in Barcelona, Spain.

MORE ABOUT EXQUISITE WORKERS

Since 2020 Exquisite Workers has celebrated Surrealism in the longest collective piece of art created daily on Instagram. Exquisite Workers offers extraordinary opportunities for artists to collaborate and be seen worldwide and in virtual worlds by playing the timeless “Exquisite Corpse” game. The exercise of “Exquisite Corpse” consists of drawing sections of a body taking turns and then concealing each contribution, starting from the head, then passing to a torso, and so on, without knowing what the previous part looked like.

The way the Surrealists did it almost a century ago was by using sheets of paper leaving marks on the border of images before passing them to the next player. Exquisite Workers does this by using the Instagram grid as a reference and unifying the pieces by the color palette selected by an invited artist each month. In October Exquisite Workers joins the global Inktober challenge and uses exclusively black and white colors.

Exquisite Workers was the first to exhibit digital art in the Burj Park, Dubai, in Brussels with ArtCrush Project, and at the United Nations at the biggest climate conference COP26. Exquisite Workers is nominated as The Best Project for Creators and in the Diversity Category at the NFT.NYC Awards 2022 in NYC, USA. The recent milestone of Exquisite Workers is the digital fashion collaboration with The Fabricant, The Netherlands.

MORE ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Exquisite Workers is invited by Barcelona Picasso Museum to teach the “Exquisite Corpse” technique to the open public as a part of the annual drawing festival #BarcelonaDibuixa on October 23, 2022, from 11 am to 7 pm CET.

WORKSHOP RULES are simple:

☠️ choose what you would like to draw: the head, the torso, or the feet

☠️ ask for a piece of paper with a corresponding template

☠️ use the marker pen you like most (we recommend the black color)

☠️ make sure to respect the marks connectors. Your art will be added to a custom body drawing as part of the “exquisite corpse” in the exhibition board at Barcelona Picasso Museum.

Check the video in Spanish with English subtitles for further instructions (introduced by Elvis Marshall). Feel free to ask the moderators of the workshop for assistance (Ferr_W and Carolina).

MORE ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

In addition to drawing collective artworks, the guests are invited to participate in the interactive exhibition which represents the installations of 3 cubes (1x1 m). On each side of the cubes, there are illustrations created in advance by 36 internationally diverse artists in black and white colors. These illustrations represent the head, the torso, and the feet of the digital “Exquisite Corpse”.

✔️ Barcelona Dibuixa guests are invited to interact with the cubes by rotating them to generate their own surreal “body”. These are 864 possible combinations.

✔️ Check the QR CODE to meet all the participating artists and explore the possible combinations. They examples will be released on the day of the event on Exquisite Workers Official Instagram. All creators are given proper credit for their works.

We are looking forward to seeing your drawing and “corpses”! Become a part of the history of art today! 🖼♾

MORE ABOUT SURREALISM

The concept of Surrealism, which came to prominence in the 1920s, is about experimentation, adaptation, and discovery, things which are so important nowadays when we are transitioning from analog to digital and from digital to cyber-reality.

Exquisite Workers fully adopts the surrealist art practice “Exquisite Corpse”, since in no other movement, from Romanticism to Futurism, the artists may produce together with the favor of chance that sort of fugitive works, possessing such a deep meaning and allowing creators to project a shared ideal and setting the criteria of the convulsive beauty.

Exquisite Workers asks: “What would Surrealists have created if they shared the experience of virtual realities? And also: “What can we do to be good ancestors?”

“We seek to create a real impact in the lives of creators and put Barcelona on the map of the digital and AI art scene. We believe that artists should be the ambassadors of cultural legacies and be at the forefront of technological innovation to contribute to the development of tomorrow’s heritage and that the latter ultimately has a human dimension,” — Roger Haus, founder at Exquisite Workers.
