STEPHAN VASEMENT

A screenwriter by education, Stephan Vasement is a graphic AI artist who has been fascinated by art since an early age. In 2022, Stephan´s work was featured in Superchief Gallery NFT, Art Basel Miami, nft now and became one of the Finalist pieces in 1st Claire AI Contest.

The questions that we asked the guest artists are:

  • Tell us about yourself and how you discovered AI. When did this happen and how have you used AI, including the tools and your sources of inspiration.
  • What was the first AI artwork you ever minted, and your most favorite AI artwork so far, and why?
  • What is your secret to community building, your relation with fellow AI artists and collectors?
  • What would you recommend to those who are about to begin their journey as AI artists in the border of 2022 and 2023?

Stephan Vasement´s quotes:

“Currently I am travelling through the world and making art. I first used AI somewhere in the middle of June. My friends showed me the DiscoDiffussion but it was very slow. I managed to get an invite to Midjourney which I mostly use until now. I did some side collection on Stable Diffusion but my most central works were made on Midjourney. I get a starting point from the ideas in my mind and then it is like a journey. It can really change the directions very quickly. I immerse myself in prompting. When I get the results and see any new interesting direction, I go there. Some works are inspired by movies, others are inspired by paintings and others by music sometimes. I started to mint first works on Tezos and it started rolling as a snowball. I was at the start of the new wave of the AI creators, it is a point of time when Midjourney started to become public, the community became bigger and it has just became huge now”

“One of my favorite works is The Introvert. It is about a person who is standing outside of the bar in a winter space immersed in green light. The building of the bar merges with the background into a frignting moster. The person is looking at the bar as a monster and does not want to go in. This is how I see the world as an introvert. A lot of people shared this pieces and wrote about the artwork to me. It is my hightest sale too, 0.6 ethereum.”

“When Midjourney was updated, my early prompts on the abstract works stopped working. I still have 600 works selected from these early experiments and they are still waiting for their time. After the abstract pieces, I have done some black and white works inspired in street photography and the Midjourney had another update. Now I create a totally different art. In a matter of 2 days after the last update, I started the prompting again for the new arts.”

“When I create, it is not conscious, I am very immersed in the process, I am in a flow. I remember the film directors I love, like Tarkovskij. And when I like the outputs, I explore them more.”

“My advice for the new commers would be: you need to open Midjourney and Disco Diffusion and just start prompting and have fun. Artificial Intelligence helps to transfer your life experiences, taste and aethetics into the picture. You need to focus on your life experiences, even if you have not made art before.”

“When I was a street photographer I would start in the morning and shoot the whole day. In the evening I would have 600 pictures that I needed to select. This really helps me now. Some of the artworks are screaming that you should post them right now. About others I am not sure. For example “One Minute Before Twilight”. There are some flowers on the right, the bear in the left and the candles in the center which felt magical. I was not sure, I posted it on Twitter and was eventually collected.”

Javier Tomeo´s quotes:

“About a year ago a friend told me about NFTs. It it when I got into making art. I guess my case was pretty tipical. A lot of artists were designers before getting into pure arts. Since my specialty was UX and UI design, I was pretty good at Javascript programming, that is why I started my journey with fx(hash) platform, it was a generative art platform on Tezos. It opened when I became interested in NFTs. In August 2022, my friend told me about the Stable Diffusion. It was just on time because I wanted to do something figurative. I did most of my works in Stable Diffusion. It was not until about a month ago, when I started to use a Midjourney. For my last collection, I have added the camera to my list of tools.”

“In terms of inspirations, I would definitely highlight the mid 20th century contemporary art, antiquity, and renaissance art. I got my degree in Ancient Philosophy.”

“My favorite work is to really find new ideas.”

““Ballet School” represents the idea of how people’s destinies intersecting at the same time in the same place merge into one beautiful picture, creating a beautiful work of art. It raises issues of unity, loneliness in crowds, social problems, death, love, and much more. “Ballet School” is a figurative work and abstract at the same time. The crowds of people make some abstract piece.”

“My advice is pretty simple. Look for the inspiration where you can. We are the artists first. AI is one of many tools that we can use to express the ideas. This year was wonderful for the AI technology and us as artists. It is just the beginning. Let´s see what comes next.”
